Infinite items, Gold Membership!

Infinite items, Gold Membership!

Hi guys!

It's finally here, it's time to create the worlds you've always wanted!

Infinite items

It has arrived! To stimulate creativity, we have permanently removed the limit from previously limited items. This means that, after purchasing a single portal, you  can use as many as you want! Not only that, you can also use them in the worlds of others!
There are a few exceptions. The following items will still be limited:

• Diamond
• Cake
• Hologram
• World portal

For some more information on Gold Membership and infinite items, check out the announcement thread:

Shop prices

There’s more! We have greatly rebalanced the shop prices, making a whole list of items a lot cheaper, saving a total of over 40.000 energy! Plus, new accounts start off with a few more packs now.

Gold Membership

With the item limit being gone, we are replacing Builders Club with Gold Membership. Enjoy Gold Membership exclusives and the support the game by doing so:

• Exclusive set of Gold blocks
For your and your crew’s worlds only: a set of exclusive gold-themed blocks and backgrounds, as well a gold sign.

• Smileys
A set of smileys only GM users can use, with sleek, gold-themed designs.

• Gold smiley border
Show off a special gold border around all the smileys you own! Can be turned on/off.

• Exclusive, animated aura, and aura colour
A whole new animation type exclusive to Gold Members, plus a soft gold colour for all other auras.

• Exclusive gold faceplate for your crew
Can only be purchased by GM users and must be in the crew to be able to select this.

• Coming soon: gold-themed lobby skin, and possibly more!

• Added a new pink aura colour for your lovely Valentine.

• Improved Pinwheel Aura animation.

• Signs are now morphable into different colours. The text colour also changes with each morph.

• Worlds in the lobby are now labeled with world sizes.

• Text shown with the inspect tool is no longer censored.

• Increased chances of getting a magic coin.

• Added the “Colored usernames” setting to the lobby options page.

• A few blocks are now rendered behind players.

Bug fixes

• Fixed a bug causing background colour to reset when changing world name. Again.
• Fixed a bug causing the Confetti faceplate to not function.
• Fixed a bug with mail to reply to the wrong person when clicking “Reply”.
• Fixed a bug causing crews not to be found when clicking a news alert.
• Fixed a UI bug where the block selector covered a part of the minimap.
• Fixed a bunch of typos.
• Fixed a bug causing users to only be able to get one reset point.
• Fixed a bug causing the word filter to not work in kick messages.
• Fixed smiley searching. A small project to add tags will be setup later.
• Fixed a few bugs with one-way blocks.
• Fixed a bug causing crews to appear instead of worlds.

After this update we will be mainly focusing on the unity version of the game. We have a long list of new features we still want to add, but improving the game performance and expanding to other platforms and new audiences seems to be the right move at the moment. While we work on the new version, we'll release more campaigns more quickly to keep you busy!

Regarding Jawapa’s demodding

Jawapa has never had a good standing with the majority of the community due to unprofessional behaviour (aka mod abuse), of which I'm very much aware. Similarly, friction between Jawapa and other team members was a common occurrence, but nothing worth booting him for.
Until now.

Jawapa has been caught selling gems on the "black market". By generating gem coupons with huge amounts of gems and selling these gems in smaller portions to people directly, he has been stealing money from the game.

Gems created by one of Jawapa's alt accounts:

A great amount of gems purchased from illegitimate gem codes, more on the other pages.

In an effort to cover his steps, he renamed several accounts, created others, and spread the gems among these accounts, hoping we wouldn't find them. Allegedly, he spread the gems also as a safety precaution in case he got kicked.

Deleting the account:

He even manually renamed accounts to the same name to make them harder to find.
As a result, Jawapa has been removed from staff, has all access disabled, and has been permanently banned from the game, effectively immediately.

Breaking trust hurts, but so does karma.

Minimal Website

We have recently released a minimal Everybody Edits website.  This website has all of the extras removed, and been made as light weight as possible.  Anything that could be removed that would not completely ruin the layout, was.  If you experience a lot of lag while playing Everybody Edits, we suggest you play on the minimal site.  While it will not eliminate all lag, it will help.

You can find it here:

Winter Time in Everybody Edits

Hi guys!

It has been a while since the last update, but here is our Christmas present, from the Everybody Edits Staff to you! Enjoy this big, wintery update, packed with new content and game streamlining!

• Arctic pack
– 5 blocks
– 2 backgrounds

• Ice block
A slipperyice block with its own slippery physics! Smoothly glide over the ice. The ice block will be in BETA for a while for some proper testing.

• New Year’s Deco pack
– Balloons
– Strings/streamers
– Fancy wine glass
– Champagne bottle

• Double jump

The long-awaited, highly-requested block is finally here! Jump twice, jump midair! Not only that, this block is morphable, and it can be set to 2, 1, or even 0 jumps! The double jump will also be in BETA to be tested until further notice.

• Reset block

Reset all progress in that world (coins, deaths, effects, etc.) without having to rejoin! With this, The Memory Game of the Puzzle Pack 1 campaign has finally been fixed, too.

• Slow dot

A larger dot, which is as slow as ladders/vines.

• Added 2 neon backgrounds

• Renamed and expanded the “Special” pack: it’s now called “Generic”, and has two extra blocks.

• Extended amount of available colors of one-way blocks from 4 to 9
They have also been changed in looks to clearly show their passable directions. This was an issue with half block tunnels.

• Music blocks
Heavily extended the amount of piano keys.
The sounds have been replaced with more clear and professional-sounding ones. It is now a full 88-key piano, going from 1 octave to 8.

• Extended the amount of drum sounds
The drum sounds have also been replaced with more clear and professional-sounding ones. A ride, ride bell, four toms, an additional 2 hi-hat sounds, and a cowbell have been added as well!
Note the stereo panning for both the piano and the drums!

User Interface

• New block bar
Based on your feedback gathered on the forum we’ve created a few new styles for your block bars, customizable to your liking. The size has been decreased significantly to create more space in the screen. To do this, we have started working with tabs with different blocks. Press the TAB button to scroll through the tabs quickly. In addition, we have added a few nifty features:

– Search function
Press F to start searching for specific blocks, or search for their descriptions for a broader search! Thanks again to everyone from this thread who helped tagging.

– Hide names of packs
Toggle whether you want to see the name of each pack.

– Collapse mode
Show only 1 block of each pack, click on it to see all blocks of that pack.

• New smiley and aura customization menu
Add your favorite smileys to the smiley hotbar, search for smileys (tag searching coming soon!), choose your aura shape and colour, all in the same menu!

• Improved world settings menu

• Settings in-game
You can now edit your settings in-game, no need to return to the lobby anymore.

• Usernames now show up bold in chat

• Added autocomplete support when typing in an addressee when sending a mail

• You are now presented with the option of subscribing to a crew when beating a world.

• You are now presented with a list of pre-selected options for reporting.
You can select “Other” to file a custom report. Reporting now shows list of reasons when not to report. Reporting for the listed reasons is considered report abuse  and will result in a warning or even a ban.

• Hiding a world now properly hides it from crew profiles

• You can now view your own crew powers

• Your profile now shows which crews you’re in

• Disbanding a crew now deletes it completely.
This means you can add the worlds to new crews again. All disbanded crews are deleted upon entry of a relevant crew world.

• New aura system
We are planning on adding new shapes and colors on a regular basis. Sticking with the current system would mean having to buy another color for each new shape, going into the hundreds easily. Therefore, you can now purchase shapes and colors separately. Purchasing a shape allows you to use it in all colors you already own, and purchasing a color allows you to use it on each shape. We are kicking off with two new things:

– New aura shape: Ring, also called “Torus”
– New aura color: Cyan
– The former Builders Club aura shape “Pinwheel” is now available to everyone.

• Domestic pack is now out of beta and available for purchase to everyone!

• Progress restore out of beta
Disconnected in a campaign world? Accidentally pressed “Go to lobby”? This is no longer an issue; restoring progress is now available to everyone!

• Beta-only for new campaigns
New campaigns will now be temporarily be in beta to ensure traps/exploits can be fixed before being released to the public

• New world options: Toggle showing minimap
– World: Toggle whether users can see the minimap inside the world.
– In lobby: Toggle whether users can see the minimap from the lobby.

• Added two new faceplates
– Code
– Tile

• Added some cute snow particles to the lobby

• The reset command now allows you to reset a single player by using “/reset X”. To reset everyone, use /resetall

• The /killemall command is now used as /killall

• Scheduled updates
When announced, you can now see when an update will when you join a world. You will no longer be spammed by the system.

• Slightly altered autumn and fog decorations

• /reset now resets crowns, completion status, and smileys received from blocks.

– Guests can now see chat, but can’t chat unless registered.

The future of Everybody Edits

The future of Everybody Edits

Since the change of staff in February, the game has seen significant change. A new face, a new direction, a new vision, and therefore also a new future. More significant changes are ahead of us and I would like to give you guys a heads up on these major things to come.

The game’s ownership

Technically, this is old news, but I never officially mentioned it. A few months back, the game’s ownership was transferred to me (Nou). I was already leading the team at the time and transferring it only made the administrative side of everything a lot easier. What does this mean for the future of the game? Not much. It won’t affect the game more than it already has. It’s only a little change on some pieces of paper. It has been in my hands for a while already, and I will continue to keep working like I have been, NVD stays admin like he has been. So even though it doesn’t necessarily affect the future of the game from this point on, it has been affecting it since the transfer last August and needed to be mentioned.

Builders Club

Builders Club has been quite a controversial subject. It is often seen as being there purely to make money, while severely restricting creativity. While there is nothing inherently wrong with trying to make money when running a business (yes, as much as we love the game, it’s still a business), if it affects the core of the game, something needs to change.

The game experienced a great amount of freedom when the duplicating glitch was around and many great levels were made as a result. We want this to happen again, but then without a glitch.

Therefore, we are getting rid of the Builders Club. We have wanted this for a long time, but a lot of careful planning was required and now is the right time.

This means that, in the future (planning for January 2016), every block pack will be a single-purchase infinite-use item. In other words, buying one portal or switch will allow you to add as many of them to your worlds as you can. This also means you can use them in worlds owned by others!

Gold Membership.
With Builders Club going, it will be replaced by Gold Membership. Gold Membership is a subscription you can choose to purchase like Builders Club, but with a different set of features. I’m not going to reveal the graphics themselves just yet, but I can tell you what we currently have looks very good!

What does the Gold Membership grant you?

• Exclusive gold smileys
A set of smileys only GM users can use, with sleek, gold-themed designs.

• Gold smiley border
Show off a special gold border around all the smileys you own! Can be turned on/off.

• Exclusive, animated aura
A whole new animation type with a special gold glow!

• Exclusive set of Gold blocks
For your and your crew’s worlds only: a set of exclusive gold-themed blocks and backgrounds, as well a gold sign.

• Exclusive gold faceplate for your crew
Can only be purchased by GM users and must be in the crew to be able to select this.

• Lobby skin
An embroidered version of the lobby for that exclusive look!

• Our gratitude
Purchasing a Gold Membership is showing your support the for game. “Supporting the game” is something you hear a lot, but what does that even mean? It means that you show you like what we do and help us purchase new software, hardware, licensing, and even food. That way, you help us being able to develop the game through materialistic means, but also by keeping us motivated.

• More
We may expand the range of what GM has to offer over the course of time or change a few other things, suggestions are welcome!

Of course all of this raises a few questions, and I will try to answer them all. If you have more questions, make sure to ask them!

• I am a Builders Club member and have a few months left. What happens to my Builders Club membership?
It will automatically be converted in a Gold Membership.

• What happens to all the energy I spent in the stackable items?
Nothing. Turning the items into infinite uses should be seen as a positive change, not an opportunity for refunds/compensation.

• Will the price of stackable items change?
Yes, the prices of stackable items will have to increase a bit to compensate for the change to a one-time purchase. If you already own them this of course won’t affect you.

• What happens to BC doors/gates?
They will be replaced with GM doors/gates.

• When is this going to happen?
It is currently in the planning for January 2016, but it could be later.

• I bought Builders Club so I could get all blocks in 1 go, is there another way?
Yes, there will be! One major problem users were having with BC is the recurring payments; they have often indicated to be willing to do a one-time purchase. Therefore, we will offer two complete packs (price to be determined, expect around $30 each):

• Ultimate Block Pack
Gain all existing blocks (except Diamond). New ones will still have to be purchased. This means that if you purchase an Ultimate Block Pack and new blocks are released the next week, you will have to purchase the new blocks the regular way. The new blocks will then become part of “all existing blocks”, meaning users purchasing the Ultimate Block Pack after the new blocks are ingame also receive those. The same principle applies to the other two packs:

• Ultimate Smiley Pack
Gain all existing smileys (except Big Spender, contest-exclusive smileys, and Superman) . New ones will still have to be purchased.

• Ultimate Aura Pack
Get all existing auras (except the moderator/admin-exclusive ones). New ones will still have to be purchased. We will be introducing a new system for auras in the future that will make buying this pack very appealing!

To Unity and beyond

Currently, Everybody Edits runs on Flash, but Flash is slowly dying. It’s losing support, will be updated less and less, will become less secure, and in general, Flash is a very inefficient engine. Therefore, we are porting the game to Unity. We have already started and it looks very promising thus far. The client runs a lot smoother, so no more lag!

Why Unity and not HTML5? The major advantage of Unity is that it’s a cross-platform engine. In other words, you will be able to play the game on your phones and tablets! Everybody Edits will still be available on the main website as it is now. We are aware of the concerns about the Unity Web Player being inefficient and it no longer being supported by Google Chrome, but we will be using the WebGL player for the website, which works a lot better. Essentially, Unity compiles C# into javascript, meaning we will have both html5 and Unity without the need for a runtime. I hope you trust we can do this properly and that it puts your concerns to rest.

In addition, we will also offer a stand-alone client to play on your desktop, plus we will look into getting this client on Steam to open it up to a whole new market and get in a great amount of new players.

The when is still unknown; it’s hard to estimate how long the porting will take. It has been low priority so far because we wanted to focus on adding new content to the game first, but from January onwards the Unity development will be kicked into 2nd gear.

We will keep adding new content to the game and there is still a LOT of awesome stuff to come! We will also keep working on other things in the background as well, such as extra payment options etc. Stay tuned!

Short version:
• Nou owns the game
• BC will no longer exist in the future
• BC will be replaced by Gold Membership
• The game will be ported to Unity
• This will fix lag issues
• This also allows us to put the game on mobile phones/tablets
• It will probably end up on Steam as well.
